Multi Camera Techniques

Task 1: Program formats
Multi camera format is when two or more cameras are used when shooting a scene or event. This is most commonly used for live shows 'X Factor', sporting events 'super-bowl' or panel shows 'QI'. The advantages of using multi camera format are that the action/scene can be shot from many different angles to access shots which will allow the audience to view the emotions of many different people, as is they were really there. It also allows the scene/action to be filmed in one go as there will be footage from more than one camera so it isn't need to be stopped and started again as is needed for single camera format. This also allows the scenes to be shot quicker because there is no need for re-lighting/ setting up the scene again as is needed for single camera format. It also saves editing time as all scenes are available from different angles (each camera) so editing can be completed quickly. Another advantage is that there won't be any problems with continuity as there are various shots of everything that needs to be placed together in the editing process.

Task 2:

Kraft Werk Concert
Lots of panning shots and tracking shots are used in this video as it looks very technological which fits with the genre of the music being played and the mise en scene of the entire show. Low camera angles are used and are always moving- movement creates interest, mirror technical production of music, makes up for lack of movement of band members. The cutting of each clip in the editing matches the changes in synthesized sounds which makes the camera movement seen fast paced and interesting and also connotes that the band and their music is quite technological. The long shot used gives perspective of the size of the room which the gig is set in which looks very impressive and gives the audience a perspective of the size of the group and their fan base. An arial tracking shot/ birds-eye-view tracking shot is also used to show the audience the size of room and how many people are there and therefore the success of the band. The smooth movement of the camera emphasizes the band member's robotic movement and music and looks juxtaposed against the stillness of the band, adding movement to the concert which makes it visually interesting to watch rather than just watching the band from a static camera angle.

Fashion
Lots of tracking shots are used throughout the catwalk show to follow the models along the catwalk which give the audience a full viewing of the outfits. Eye level shots are used throughout to bring us back to a simple viewpoint where the entire model can be seen. Medium shots which tilt up and down are used frequently to gradually reveal the clothes shown which fits the primary purpose of the fashion show- which is to show the clothes off to any prospective buyers and advertise the brands. Zooming in on the face's of the models shows professionalism and serious tone of fashion show as the shots show the serious facial expressions of the models. Another camera angle used is the low tilt which places the audience's viewpoint  the power of the models and therefore the power of the women who wear them, fitting the purpose of persuading women to buy the clothes as it connotes power. The wide angle shot of entire stage shows that the model is the centre of attention as we are shown the full scale of the room they are in, giving us an idea of how big and important this event is. Simple, often static camera shots as the models are moving, so the cameras do not need to move that much as they are juxtaposed against the movement of the show.

Football
Lots of tracking shots following the movement of the ball itself are used to give the audience a sense of realism as if they are watching the football match from the live as we are shown the ball's movement at fast speed which also makes it more interesting to watch.

Multi-Camera Project- Friday World

For our multi camer project we will produce an episode of Friday World, the weekly school TV show shown at break time each Friday. I am working in a group with Anisha, Christy, Rowena, Rosie, Heather, Alaina and Beth. In our episode we will include one of our single camera dramas, a film trailer, a music video and a game show and it's answers. The presenters will be Rosie and then myself and Christy will swap half way through. The gameshow we have thought of is using the title of a recent hit song and recreating it in literal terms, eg, for Owl City's: Fireflies, we will get an image of fire and flies and produce a 5 second clip of this and others- similarly to the gameshow, 'Catchphrase.'
